Rhode
Island Corporation Announces Second Best Year in History
The
Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) recently announced
that 2004 was the second best year in history for
total number of passengers. The total number of passengers
for '04 was 5,509,186, a 6.43% increase over last
year's number. RIAC attributed last year's success,
in part, to the addition of two low fare carriers
and the significant increase in number of departing
flights.
Mark
Brewer, President and CEO of RIAC said, "Our
obligation is to meet the air travel requirements
of our region by working with our airline partners,
the Transportation Security Administration (TSA),
the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other
businesses to keep costs low, service levels high
and exploring new opportunities to meet the needs
of the traveling public."

February
8th EIS Scoping Meeting Draws Closer
----
The
Go Green Alliance Encourages Your Support at this
Next Critical Step for a Modern Airport
Last
year, the Rhode Island Airport Corporation requested
the Federal Aviation Administration undertake an Environmental
Impact Statement (EIS) to determine the best path
to an improved airport that will serve Rhode Island
well into the 21st century. The first important step
in the EIS process will take place on February
8 th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the University Room
of the Radisson Hotel in Warwick.
At this time the FAA will host a public meeting to
decide the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement
(EIS) for the Airport improvement project. This vitally
important meeting provides an opportunity for the
community to get involved in this effort.
The
EIS is a comprehensive process that is defined by
the National Environmental Policy Act and uses federal
standards to consider the impacts of projects, such
as an improved airport, through a variety of measurement
criteria. The EIS represents a fair process that evaluates
the impact on the community and airport safety concerns.
It will provide the information necessary to prudently
and safely proceed with plans for growth at Green
Airport, taking environmental, community and other
factors into account.
The
Go Green Alliance strongly urges you to attend. Your
presence will demonstrate the community's commitment
to the economic future of Rhode Island.
