Go
Green Alliance Leadership Meets the Press
Speaking
to a crowd of more than sixty supporters and the press,
Go Green Alliance Co-Chairs Alan Hassenfeld and Ronald
Machtley made the case for implementing the planned
improvements to T.F. Green and reiterated the support
of the Alliance for the Economic Impact Statement
(EIS) process soon to be initiated by the Federal
Aviation Administration.
Bryant
College President Machtley emphasized the economic
and competitive issues at stake, noting, “Consumers
will make their own decisions based on their perception
of value and convenience, and a decision not to improve
our facility will surely turn passengers away from
Green.”
Hassenfeld,
Chairman of Hasbro Inc, focused on the importance
of a first-class facility and the fairness of the
well-documented EIS process. “ Go
Green Alliance encourages the entire Rhode Island
community to support this process and to work with
the Rhode Island Airport Corporation and the Federal
Aviation Administration to study the issues and to
respond to their recommendations in a spirit of cooperation.”
Rhode
Island Economic Development Corporation Executive
Director Michael McMahon added that Green Airport
is the “front door” of Rhode Island. Green is the
first place prospective businesses encounter when
they arrive in the State and its impact as a first
impression is often an important factor in the decisions
of these companies.
During
the “Question and Answer” session, Mark Brewer of
the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, one day before
his appointment as the new President & CEO of
the corporation, joined the panel and expressed his
appreciation of the work of the Go Green Alliance
to focus attention on the importance of the planned
improvements.
Greater
Providence Chamber of Commerce President & CEO,
James Hagan, introduced the proceedings and Dick Plotkin,
Greater Providence Chamber Transportation Committee
Chair, provided an historical perspective on the interrelation
of airport development and economic growth issues
in Rhode Island.
